As Acting Director of the Logistics Support Division (LSD) in the Department of
Field Support, I am committed to the goal of achieving gender balance
among the professional staffof the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
While logistics services have traditionally been a male dominated field, the
Logistics Support Division is working to break down those barriers.

To further increase gender balance, LSD has been actively working with other
Offices within the Department of Field Support and the UN
Organization to attract highly qualified and competent women and to implement
Security Council Resolution 1325 Women, Peace and Security (S/RES/1325). In
addition, LSD has taken its own initiatives, partnering with United Nations
Funds, Programmes, and Institutes with expertise in gender issues. For example,
in 2006, we commissioned the United Nations International Institute for
Research and Training for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW) to conduct a
study on the barriers to women’s recruitment and retention at LSD, and we are
currently working to implement the recommendations of that study.
