Responsibilities
Located within the Office of Operations, Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), and reporting directly to the Leader of the Integrated Operational Team (IOT), the Senior Support Officer, Integrated Support Services (ISS) is responsible for acting as the principal focal point for integrated support services matters and coordinating with peacekeeping missions day-to-day operations in the specific areas of logistics, transport (air, ground and maritime), engineering, communications and information technology, supply, aviation safety, Contingent Owned Equipment and Property Management (COEPM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Movement Control. He/she is responsible to interface directly with officials at the appropriate levels in the Department of Field Support (DFS) Divisions/Sections and Mission counterparts to ensure efficient and effective provision of, and a full-time focus on Mission ISS requirements. He/she ensures the development of integrated support service strategies, objectives, plans, risk management, policy, and guidance are built on appropriate specialized input and that such input is fully informed by first-hand knowledge of the situation as it develops in the field and by an integrated approach to conflict resolution at the strategic and operational levels. Within delegated authority, working in close consultation with DPKO and DFS senior management in HQ and field mission counterparts, specific responsibilities include: Coordinate/work closely with the administrative, military, police and substantive staff of the IOT to develop and monitor integrated concepts and overall mission-specific support plans including integrated support forecasting, supply schedules, priorities or requirements; ensuring that outstanding and upcoming integrated support issues are identified to DFS in a timely manner; advising senior leadership of DPKO and DFS of outstanding issues; Ensure timely and effective resolution of urgent operational needs; Provide analysis and updates on support issues including major/complex reports on integrated support services matters for management; Advise the Head of the IOT and senior management on budgeting, financial, human resources and general administration issues and practices for integrated support services requirements; Provide technical expertise in the Integrated Mission Planning Process (IMPP) for the planning of new missions; Provide advice and support for the senior management in such areas as technical cooperation activities, special reviews of operational objectives and related administrative policies/procedures, etc.; Participates, on behalf of the Department, in task forces, technical assessment missions of the Secretariat on integrated support matters, including the implementation of the information management system; Participate in mission assessment reviews/visits; and, Perform any other related duties as required by the Head of the Integrated Operational Team (IOT)

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Master?s degree or equivalent) in logistics, business administration, engineering, transport, or other related area. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in planning, coordinating and/or managing multifunctional logistical support operations in a field environment is required. Experience within the context of a peacekeeping, military, emergency management, disaster relief or humanitarian relief operation is desirable. At least four years of combined experience gained while assigned to the administrative component of a UN field peace operation and UNHQ is desirable. Experience in working with the major occupational areas of multi-dimensional peacekeeping, or otherwise to have shown a capacity to operate effectively in an integrated civilian-military-police context, is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language, preferably French, is desirable.
